Civic Club Events

QUARTERLY MEETINGS
The civic club holds meetings every three months with the purpose to help the neighborhood with local issues. We bring in speakers on important local topics. The board and other volunteers provide updates and information. And we provide time for discussion and feedback on what's important for our members. We meet at DePelchin Children's Center, 4950 Memorial Drive, although the entrance is at the intersection of Sandman and Scotland, at 7 p.m. Check the Calendar for upcoming dates.

HAPPY HOURS
Happy Hours are held almost every month at a local restaurant or bar. Everyone is welcome, and in fact, please bring a neighbor or two. We enjoy drinks and appetizers, and many of us stay and eat there as well. It's a great place to start to get to know people in the neighborhood, and after a while, it's a great place to meet up with friends in the neighborhood. You can find the dates and locations on multiple places: find them on this website on the home page, sign up for email announcements, also on the home page, and become part of our Facebook page.Check the Calendar for upcoming dates.

BOOK CLUB
We read a book and get together to talk, usually about the book. It's held at someone's house as a potluck event with everyone bringing food or drink. You don't have to have read the book to come. If you'd like to receive announcements with date and place, email Juanita at bookclub@rice-military.org for more information.

GARAGE SALE
We host a neighborhood-wide garage sale every spring. It's $25 to participate, and all proceeds benefit our neighborhood park, Nellie Keyes Park. Participants are responsible for holding their own sale, but the civic club will promote the event citywide and post signs around the neighborhood two weeks before the event. If you'd like to participate, please contact Stacie Fairchild, RMCC's Community Engagement Chair, at news@ricemilitarycc.org to sign up and receive more information.

National Night Out
Every year, we get together for a carnivalesque festival in Nellie Keyes Park. Local restaurants give away free food, local businesses who sponsor the event have tables, other local nonprofits participate, and we always have lots and lots of children's activities! It's on the second Tuesday of October. Check the Calendar for more detail on next year's NNO event.

HOLIDAY PARTY
Every year toward the beginning of December, we hold a holiday party, provide food and a couple of drinks, to celebrate our neighborhood and raise money for DePelchin Children's Center.
